A 'Bio' Ride in the Sky

Dr. Scott Leavengood and several colleagues in the College of Forestry are participating in a 5-year, $40 million, USDA funded, research and outreach project.  The Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance (NARA) project is focused on developing a biofuels industry in the northwest with a specific emphasis on the use of biomass for jet fuel.   

Press for producing densified wood and sample of wood

Dr. Fred Kamke has partnered with Corvallis Tool Company (CTC) to develop machinery to produce densified wood known as 'VTC Wood' (viscoelastic thermal compressed wood).

Newly-built apartment complex destroyed by EF5 tornado

Drs. Rakesh Gupta, Arijit Sinha, and colleagues visited Tuscaloosa, AL and Joplin, MO following the tornados of spring 2011. The purpose of their visits was to collect data on building damage after the worst and deadliest tornados in several decades.

OWIC’s mission is to improve the competitiveness of Oregon’s wood products industry by fostering innovation in products, processes, and business systems. Excel Program for Modeling Lumber Dry Kiln Operations - a model for lumber dry kiln operation. The kiln configuration and a drying schedule can be input and the code in the Excel file will simulate drying lumber to the specified MC or for the specified time.

Shrink-Swell Calculator for Wood - compares different species of wood, determining how much they will shrink/swell in given conditions
